There must be a good introductory numerical analysis course out there!
The course content can be found here csc.cam.ac.uk/academic/MPhilSciComp/taughtelement/corelectur‌​es. We try to show the underlying principles why an algorithm works. For example we look at butcher trees to determine the order of Runge-Kutta methods.
