If $L=\mathbb{Q}(\alpha)$ then $V_\sigma$ is the subspace of $V_\mathbb{C}$ where $\alpha v=\sigma(\alpha)v$ (this is independent from $\alpha$). Is that the same as $V \otimes_{L, \sigma} \mathbb{C}$?
