Capsule biography

Education in mathematics.

20 years experience in programming and software engineering, from device drivers, to natural language processing, to large business systems.

Took a break in the IT recession of 2001, lasting til the full recession of 2007…

Reached ceiling of programming, paths offered were into project management, or business analysis.

Instead of those, I’m combining the math and programming background with a dash of computational linguistics and Python to re-brand myself as a data scientist.

• Taking on-line classes. Reading books (e- and dead-tree) on data science and math

In the evenings

• hiking

• listening to music
• wooden spoon cooking (opposite of iron chef)
• more reading, the occasional mystery, sigh-fie/sciffy, Flashman, Wodehouse...
