Gary Moon

I am a third-year PhD candidate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My research is primarily in partial differential equations; in particular, I study elliptic free boundary problems and the water waves problem. For my dissertation, I am working on proving the well-posedness (and existence time) of vortex sheets in the presence of geometry and plan to further study the control/stabilization of water waves as well as numerical algorithms for water waves. I have more recently become interested in harmonic analysis and microlocal analysis. I enjoy studying set theory, foundations of math, philosophy of math, etc. in my spare time, but am by no means an expert.
