Ethical questions in mathematics arise in particular when mathematics is applied to the physical world (e.g. research in number theory is used for cryptography, mathematical results on machine learning are used to profit large corporations, or various mathematical methods are used in the context of the defence industry), and when dealing with the work of other researchers (e.g. how to reference unpublished results received in confidence, or how to ensure that work is credited to the right person).
