Is there a good reason why $a^{2b} + b^{2a} \le 1$ when $a+b=1$?

This type of problem can be solved by the following approach: Maximize the function a^(2b)+b^(2a) s.t. a+b=1. We find that the function is maximized at a=b=1/2 and takes value 1.
