From Adleman himself, his role in the trio was to crack the plethora of schemes that Rivest and Shamir would come up with; it was only on the 43rd (or so) try that Adleman announced that maybe that had come up with something. But Adleman was not particularly interested in cryptography at the time, and insisted that his name go last.
Thanks, Scott, for your answer! However, what did you mean by the MAJORITY function with the promised (1/3,2/3) gap? Computing this function is not in EQP relative to an oracle? If you know of the reference, that would be wonderful!
