My name is Dr. Matthew Hanson and I am a professor of physical chemistry at Le Moyne College. Prior to this, I held a teaching-focused postdoctoral research position with Dr. Scott Simpson at St. Bonaventure University, received my Ph. D. in theoretical physical chemistry from Notre Dame under Dr. Steven Corcelli, and received my bachelor’s degree in chemistry with minors in mathematics and philosophy from Creighton University. I am passionate about the intersections of theoretical physics and chemistry, especially the foundations of quantum theory. I have also recently taken some interest in the pedagogy of thermodynamics and quantum mechanics, particularly the introduction of these subjects in terms of minimal numbers of reasonable postulates. My research deals with understanding molecular vibrations via IR spectroscopy and the electronic properties of metal surfaces and their functionalization with organic molecules.
