@MarkS I think you should cut and paste the EDIT into an answer, and then accept your own answer, so as to indicate that the question has been addressed.

Having worked with Git, I actually agree. Writing math papers with Git and treating them as though they were source code, allowing PR's and having numerous people contribute in tiny ways- these would be wonderful for math papers.
