Historical (personal) examples of teaching-based research
@Amir. Pascal was perhaps the first to use induction systematically, and in the modern base step, induction step format. He used it to prove results about his triangle. However, Euclid already used induction in the descent form to prove certain results, such as existence of prime factorization. Grassmann noticed that the fundamentals of arithmetic, such as a+b=b+a, are all provable by induction.
