Can we solve the following recurrence relation: $$a_{m,n} = 1 + \frac{a_{m,n-1}+a_{m-1,n}}{2}$$ with $a_{0,n}=a_{m,0}=0$? If not, can we get an estimate of the growth of $a_{m,n}?$ I encountered this question when analyzing a 2D random walk on $R_+^2$ with boundaries at $x = m$ and $y = n$.
