$S^6$ has a complex structure.
I don’t know if this apply, but this has a nice story. It has been "published" to to be true and now Atiyah has a short paper The non-existent complex 6-sphere on arXiv claiming to be false, other important mathematicians has also work on this problem. According to LeBrun this would be a minor disaster.
