The fact that you are requiring the compact set to have nonempty interior seems to indicate that you wish the intersection to be connected (this would normally be implied by the term contractible, i.e., contractible to a single point). If so, then the answer is negative already for polygons in the plane. Namely, you can always choose a little circle close to a vertex such that the intersection will not be connected.
