summation of eigenvalues of tri-diagonal matrix

Is there any analytic expression for summation of eigen-values of a tri-diagonal matrix? Is there any expression for case of a general matrix. i.e. if we have a matrix H then maybe the answer be

$\Sigma(Eigen Values) = \Sigma_i( \sqrt( \Sigma_j(H_{ij} * H_{ij}) ) )$
