A commutative unital ring that can be given the structure of a finitely generated algebra over a field is catenary. Is a Noetherian integral domain that can be given the structure of a (possibly infinitely generated) algebra over an algebraically closed field necessarily catenary? If not, what is the minimum Krull dimension of a counterexample?
