Nov 30, 2012 at 15:54 comment added Aaron Mazel-Gee Ah, so I think the point is that there's no a priori reason that up-to-homotopy models (in $\mbox{Top}$) for the abelian group Lawvere theory should give rise to $E_\infty$-spaces. And of course, this result immediately implies that not all $E_\infty$-spaces can be written as homotopy models.
