Feb 10, 2021 at 14:32 | comment | added | Tim Campion | Quite apart from the towers, it's worth just saying: the "$n$-connected cover" construction is dual to the "$n$-truncation" construction in the obvious sense: the former kills lower homotopy groups, while the latter kills higher homotopy groups, they have dual universal properties, etc.
Feb 10, 2021 at 14:29 | comment | added | Tim Campion | On reflection, I feel like if it's worth including a reference to the term "Whitehead tower", it's also worth including an nlab link to where folks can read about Whitehead towers (I was surprised not to be able to find a Wikipedia page on the topic). And to just point out that Whitehead towers are in the obvious sense dual to Postnikov towers, which you can read about on Wikipedia or the nlab.

Feb 8, 2021 at 0:18 | comment | added | Tim Campion | I feel like somewhere on this page should appear the term "Whitehead tower", the name for the inverse system $\cdots \to X\langle 2 \rangle \to X \langle 1 \rangle \to X$, where $X\langle n \rangle$ is the $n$-connected cover of $X$.
