I'm loosely familiar with this circle of ideas: billiards on rational polygons, the geodesic flow on translation surfaces and moduli spaces of holomorphic differentials. At one point, I was curious about the lattices which arise in relation to square-tiled surfaces. Maybe I will post it as a separate question on this.
