Apr 9, 2012 at 22:01 comment added Joël If $G$ is abelian, $k[G] \hookrightarrow L[G]=k[G] \otimes_k L$ is faithfully flat because $k \rightarrow L$ is and to be faithfully felt is preserved by arbitrary base change (see e.g. Matsumura, commutative algebra, page 27). To explain why the first example works, I need more space so I am going to put it in an edit of my answer.
Apr 9, 2012 at 20:21 comment added Martin Brandenburg Sorry for this dumb question, but why does the first example work? We don't have commutative rings here, and even if $G$ is abelian I don't know why $k[G] \hookrightarrow L[G]$ is faithfully flat.
