Apr 28, 2021 at 16:04 comment added Steven Landsburg Although I accepted this answer, I see that I never thanked you for it. I realize that "thank you" comments are generally frowned upon, but I think that for an answer this awesome an exception should be made. Thank you.

Mar 23, 2012 at 16:44 comment added Sándor Kovács Dear anon, that's a completely valid observation, but I'm truly sorry if that careless wording focused your interest on a relatively unimportant point of the example. I edited the answer to make it better. I hope you're happier with it now. Cheers!

Mar 23, 2012 at 11:11 comment added anon "This is usually proved using the Leray spectral sequence" I hope not (Example 1). The hypotheses imply that $f_*$ takes an injective resolution of $F$ to an acyclic resolution of $f_*F$, which can be used to compute its cohomology. This gives the result.

Mar 21, 2012 at 15:46 comment added Leo Alonso The level of math education is getting lower and lower at pre-university levels, that's a fact. It's a shame! Thanks Sándor for your very nice answer.
Mar 21, 2012 at 15:29 comment added Georges Elencwajg Dear Sándor: but there is no fault and no culprit! On the contrary, I loved your joke and since I had nothing mathematical to contribute to your perfect answer, I just wrote a little tongue-in-cheek, good-humoured comment as a witness that I had read and appreciated your answer.
Mar 21, 2012 at 15:21 comment added Sándor Kovács @Yosemite Sam: the Grauert-Riemenschneider vanishing is probably in any book on higher dimensional geometry, especially one that discusses generalizations of the Kodaira vanishing theorem. A possible source is Lazarsfeld's Positivity in AG.

Mar 21, 2012 at 15:16 comment added Sándor Kovács Cher Georges, please excuse my joke! First I wrote (as somewhat customary) "baby case" for the first one. Then I was stuck with what I should write for the second and third. My next attempt was "toddler" and "preschool" for the next two, but I thought that's a little ridiculous, I should somehow get to an advanced level. I tried various combination, but they all looked silly. At the end I just got tired and went with the latest one. As always, you have eloquently pointed to a fault without making the culprit feel too bad about it. Thank you for that! Cheers!
