Mar 15, 2012 at 16:00 comment added Jose Arnaldo Bebita @Gerhard, I was able to get hold of a copy of Jakob's presentation. It is available online via docs.google.com/presentation/d/…
Feb 11, 2012 at 7:16 comment added Jose Arnaldo Bebita Thanks Gerhard! I'll try Google+ and will let you know if I get Jakob's write-up... :)
Feb 11, 2012 at 7:12 comment added Gerhard Paseman For you and me Henry, it might be a bit much. Neither of us is Arnie Dris. For the optimist, the evidence of the talk suffices to suggest the existence of a write-up. I wish Arnie luck. Gerhard "Also Has An OPN Interest" Paseman, 2012.02.10
Feb 11, 2012 at 6:42 comment added Henry Cohn It seems strange to me to put so much effort into trying to track this down: a web search shows that it's the abstract for an 8-minute talk by a 14-year-old, which sounds extremely impressive given the speaker's age but gives no indication of containing new results. Without some reason to think there exists a write-up in the first place, I don't see the purpose of this question.

not a real question
Feb 11, 2012 at 5:52 comment added Gerhard Paseman You might try Google+, and ask him to join math.stackexchange for the (possibly sole) purpose of discussing his talk. Some people in this country (U.S.) are concerned about the misuse of online social networking regarding teenagers, so I recommend treading carefully and professionally. Feb 11, 2012 at 4:34 comment added Jose Arnaldo Bebita Editing my question now to reflect quid's suggestion...
Feb 11, 2012 at 4:33 comment added Jose Arnaldo Bebita For the record, I inquired with MAA directly, and Ivars Peterson says: "Jakob Weisblat is a high school student in Ohio, and there is no public email address available for him. He presented a short oral talk on the subject at the 2010 MathFest, but he was not required to submit a paper." So I guess I'll go with quid's suggestion to edit the question to ask about "whether there is a write-up of the material presented in the talk". Any way, thanks Gerhard, thanks quid for your comments. Appreciate it...
Feb 10, 2012 at 19:35 comment added Gerhard Paseman I agree with your sentiments, except for voting to close. If, however, you had asked for the question to be edited to include the above points, and said that the question should be closed if they weren't made, then I wouldn't be typing any comment here. Thanks for clarifying. Gerhard "Ask Me About System Design" Paseman, 2012.02.10
Feb 10, 2012 at 18:01 comment added user9072 @Gerhard: what's given isn't really an abstract of an article (or related) but of a talk presenting a 'paper' at an MAA meeting. So that in some sense to me it is not even clear there is a paper (in the sense of an article or related) to be found. When spelled out it seems nit-picking but if the question would have been whether there is a write-up of the material presented in the talk, the situation would already be different. Also if a "tried to contact author" would have been in the question it would also be different (perhaps I'd better waited for that clarif. before voting).
Feb 10, 2012 at 16:30 comment added Gerhard Paseman Quid, you may vote as you choose, but your remark (in my view) does not enlighten. Can you say more specifically why this is not appropriate for MathOverflow? (I've contemplated several reasons, and rejected them, the most compelling being that the author is hypothetically a person with no research experience. Even in that case there is the potential for an idea useful to Arnie, so why not ask politely?) Gerhard "Ask Me About System Design" Paseman, 2012.02.10
Feb 10, 2012 at 11:33 comment added Jose Arnaldo Bebita Hi quid. I tried getting hold of Jakob's e-mail address but was unsuccessful. I am also currently unable to send him an offline message through Facebook. This is the reason why I opted to post this reference request here in MO.
Feb 10, 2012 at 11:15 comment added user9072 I do not consider this reference request as a very reasonable one. Also did you try to contact the author? Vote to close.
