It's simply that among the many issues Morava mentions in his article, the last comment on vanishing cycles seemed to me nearly understandable, but experts I asked about that gave puzzling contradictory answers. So, I conclude to have missed some understanding and ask more. Conc. "real names": Anonymity makes asking possibly stupid questions easier.
