I believe it is intended for people who have at least had a standard first course in algebraic topology. On the other hand, if one does have the prerequisites, it is an excellent second or third book.

Dec 10, 2009 at 14:19 | comment | added | Harry Gindi | Have you ever read a really good book on AT? Something like Switzer? To be honest, there's no really great introductory book, so I like May because it's 10 times as dense with information as Hatcher and prepares you for a real second AT book like Switzer.
Dec 10, 2009 at 14:12 | comment | added | Josiah Sugarman | I love Hatcher's book. It's very easy to read. Honestly, I've never read it through and I only use it as a reference.
Dec 10, 2009 at 13:55 | comment | added | Sonia Balagopalan | You read Munkres and learn stuff, then read Hatcher and see it all!
Dec 10, 2009 at 13:50 | comment | added | Harry Gindi | I really hate Hatcher's book. You can read it for a week and not learn anything.
