He has since posted new versions that he claims correct those mistakes. I am not aware of any explicit issues with the new versions, but I do not understand them and am not aware of anyone who is willing to publicly vouch for them. Unlike Mineyev's proof (which ingenuously combines mainstream techniques in geometric group theory, and thus was pretty easy to check), Friedman's work uses a plethora of unfamiliar tools, so it takes a lot longer to sort things out. | |
