What you need to do is say that a subset $U$ of $k((x))$ is open if there exists an integer $n$ such that $x^nU$ is an open subset of $k[[x]]$.
Jul 25, 2011 at 18:47 comment added Mike Shulman What is the x-adic topology on k((x))? Since x is invertible, it doesn't generate a proper ideal in k((x)), does it?
