The proof of the fundamental lemma should allow Arthur to complete his work on the stable trace formula for classical groups, and lead to a theory of local $A$-packets for classical groups. Since in the tempered case $A$-packets and $L$-packets coincide, and since the general description of $L$-packets reduces to the description of tempered $L$-packets for Levi's, my understanding is that this should also lead to a theory of local $L$-packets for classical groups.
