Feb 25, 2011 at 1:28 comment added shenghao a 'direct proof' of local constancy: $\pi_*F$ is locally constant by proper smooth base change, and its invariant is just the kernel/equalizer of all automorphisms $g\in G,$ which is locally constant (when passing to a covering, one is taking equalizer of morphisms of constant sheaves, and the sheaf equalizer is just the presheaf equalizer, which is constant).

Feb 24, 2011 at 17:13 comment added Peter Toth hi....thanks for the very wide range answer (you seem to know also my hidden intentions also:-)...what i want to do is to prove local constancy of the G-invariants of the push forward on the quotient by proving that there is an isomorphism written in my question.
