Nov 12, 2009 at 19:33 comment added Charles Rezk Lurie's derived elliptic curve theorem (if I remember correctly) actually identifies the stack of oriented derived elliptic curves. "Oriented" means (roughly) that formal completion of a curve over Spec(R) is equipped with an equivalence to Spf( R^{BU(1)} ), (as formal groups). This suggests to me that the derived formal group result you mention is likely to be pretty tautological; still, I'd love to see how it works out.
