Apr 24, 2012 at 11:38 comment added Willie Wong Having just returned from an AIM SQUARES, I have to say that since their math castle (aimath.org/about/morganhill.html) hasn't yet been built, the current "warehouse" setting of the AIM is very conducive to research, despite being situated in the middle of Palo Alto in sunny California.

Dec 16, 2010 at 8:12 comment added Andrew Stacey I agree that you are using the word correctly, but think that the sentence using it is daft. Once you've proved the result, why do you need to check the heuristics? The heuristics presumably helped you find the proof, but once you have the proof, they've played their part and can be forgotten. (I'll go back into my snow cave now.)

Dec 15, 2010 at 13:58 comment added Willie Wong @Pietro and Ben: similarly to the RiP is the AIM SQUARES program aimath.org/research/squares.html one of which I will be doing sometime next year. I'll try to report back whether it is sufficiently isolated like Oberwolfach to be conducive to research. :)
Dec 15, 2010 at 13:55 comment added Willie Wong @Andrew: I am using heuristics correctly, I hope, to mean "ideas gathered from past experience". So stop grumbling.
