Dec 3, 2023 at 22:59 | comment | added | math-physicist | @YCor: I have edited my question to only include the HSC. This conjecture seems fairly important yet I wonder why there are no recent good survey article on it! I haven't been able to find a "lot" of literature on this either. I believe the conjecture seems promising for an affirmative answer, but yet not so much spotlight on this.

made question more specific to the HSC

Dec 3, 2023 at 11:06 | comment | added | YCor | There seem to be a number of partial results on HSC in arbitrary dimension, but using weakenings of "smoothness" assumptions. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any good survey.
Dec 3, 2023 at 11:04 | comment | added | YCor | The question seems far too broad if it allows things outside HSC (i.e., about groups action in general, even group actions on topological manifolds).

Dec 3, 2023 at 7:23 | comment | added | KConrad | I see, that paper wants to use $\mathbf Z_p$ in "topologist's notation" to mean the integers mod $p$ rather than the $p$-adic integers.
Dec 3, 2023 at 7:15 | comment | added | math-physicist | @KConrad: This is not very common I know. Some papers, say, this one use $A_p$ instead of $\Bbb Z_p$.
Dec 3, 2023 at 7:08 | comment | added | KConrad | Where did you see the $p$-adic integers written as $A_p$? That is coming from a quote, so I'd like to see the reference.
