(Indeed, the first map is an isomorphism by the connectivity of $\mathrm{BString}$; in general, $\pi_*\mathrm{MString} \to \pi_*\mathrm{tmf}$ is only a surjection and not an isomorphism; here, $\mathrm{tmf}$ is a connective variant of $\mathrm{TMF}$.
