Taking F^{-1}(r) gives a 1-manifold whose boundary consists of F^{-1}(0), f_1^{-1)(p), and f_2^{-1}(p) all oriented appropriately. After working out signs your formula follows from the fact that an oriented boundary of a compact 1-manifold is zero. | |
