A similar story could be told about Banach's PhD dissertation... "But that is another story and shall be told another time." (cit. Michael Ende). Basically, IMHO, it's hard to be certain about many math myths and stories, so I have decided to mention only a well-known fact, based on a published and serious source.
Dec 26, 2022 at 22:17 comment added LSpice This does not seem to be exactly an answer to the original question, which is about new proofs of existing results (not open problems) that were found by students taking exams (not solving, actually or purportedly, homework). I am not sure why these constraints were chosen, or whether either or both is important to the OP, so I guess it will be up to them to say whether this answers their question.
