Jan 14, 2022 at 2:11 comment added LSpice Just so that it is here in the answers, I would like to elaborate on my terse comment by making sure that the phrase "Fourier inversion" appears here. Concretely, $\lvert G\rvert^{-1}\sum_\chi \chi(g)^{-1}\sum_{x \in X} \chi(x)$ is $1$ if $g$ belongs to $X$ and $0$ otherwise (and, in general, if $X$ is a multiset, then the sum counts the multiplicity of $g$ in $X$, as @GeraldEdgar mentioned).
