Nov 14, 2021 at 23:16 comment added Nathaniel Johnston In fact, the use of singular values (i.e., Schmidt coefficients) goes much beyond just entanglement entropy. Every reasonable measure of the amount of entanglement in a bipartite pure quantum state is invariant under local unitaries and is thus necessarily a function of that state's Schmidt coefficients.
