In this view perhaps we can say that enumerating is "abstract tallying": you imagine the bijection as a list, and argue what would happen if you went through the list and kept tally marks. ("Concrete tallying" would then be actually doing it.) Also, I was not aware that counting is etymologically linked to com-puting! | |
