Aug 5, 2021 at 21:44 comment added Random By the way, a more direct way to prove that $16^m - 3^n = \pm 1$ has no solutions is that looking modulo 8 we see that $n$ must be even, but then our expression is a difference of two non-zero squares which is never equal to $\pm 1$.
