Jun 1, 2020 at 9:55 comment added Ville Salo I suppose the only thing used about the action of $SO(3)$ on $\mathbb{S}^2$ is that the group acts transitively, and whenever $x$ and $y$ have the same stabilizer, we have $gx = y$ for some $g \in Z(G)$.
