But in the 19th century, the field was effectively closed and sealed by introducing non-Euclidean geometries ―thanks to Lobachevsky, János Bolyai and Riemann. The independence of the parallel postulate from Euclid's other axioms was finally demonstrated by Eugenio Beltrami in 1868. | |
