On the level of fibred manifolds, a connection is pretty much equivalent to a horizontal distribution (see Definitions 12 and 13). On $G$ bundles you would want the distribution to be $G$ invariant in the obvious way. | |

I know that this is discussed in Kobayashi-Nomizu. I have some notes which may or may not be relevant for your discussion (since I don't really care about $G$ bundles there). | |
