Sep 2, 2019 at 9:07 comment added Jochen Wengenroth A discontinuous multiplicative seminorm on a dense subalgebra $A$ of $C([-1,1]\to \mathbb R)$ is easy to find: Take $A$ as all polynomials and $\|p\|=|p(2)|$. However, I doubt very much that one can extend it by Zorn's lemma.
