Feb 24, 2019 at 10:09 comment added YCor Indeed this says that these are precisely quaternionic representation; in particular an example is given by the standard 2-dimensional representation of $SU(2)$ (I took time figuring out that the matrix $C=\begin{pmatrix}0 & -1 \\ 1 & 0\end{pmatrix}$ does the job. But this does say whether each fixed $SU(N)$, $N\ge 3$, admits at least one quaternionic representation?
