Jan 28, 2019 at 7:50 comment added Alexander Campbell Hopf algebras haven't always had antipodes (cf. Mac Lane, Homology, Section VI.9 or Milnor--Moore, 'On the structure of Hopf algebras', Definition 4.1). So what Day called a "Hopf monoid" back in 1970 is what we would now call a "bimonoid".
