Their other paper you want to look at: Molzon, Mortensen. The Schwarzian derivative for maps between manifolds with complex projective connections. Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 348 (1996), no. 8, 3015–3036.

Gunning, On the uniformization of complex manifolds: the role of connections", p. 50, seems to say that the Schwarzian derivative vanishes precisely for projective transformations. This is made completely clear and explicit in the paper Molzon, Mortensen, Differential operators associated with holomorphic mappings. Ann. Global Anal. Geom. 12 (1994), no. 3, 291–304.
