I think one thing about which I wasn't clear is that I am actually interested in 2-cocycles and not in cohomology classes, and the particular application I am interested in is not the same as finding group extensions (and I haven't found any conceptual connection with group extensions). Fortunately, this does not matter much, because the condition (ii) that I listed above, I think, is stronger than what you call a "normalized cocycle." | |
