Dec 22, 2017 at 23:05 | comment | added | Alexandre Eremenko | I regret that this question is closed. I raises an important issue in teaching Complex Variables. I mostly agree with Stalker's criticism, of modern texts though sometimes he exaggerates, for example, Riemann's mapping theorem, and its generalization, the Uniformisation theorem are indeed sometimes useful.

Dec 22, 2017 at 7:09 | comment | added | M.G. | I think it would be interesting to see concrete examples from (analytic) number theory and enumerative combinatorics (generating functions) of why it's important to know if something has an analytic continuation (somewhere) or it does not and/or it would have been nice if it had.

Dec 22, 2017 at 3:39 | comment | added | Joseph Van Name | This question is too broad since there are many many examples of analytic functions applied to various areas of mathematics.
