Jun 14, 2010 at 16:10 comment added Jon Awbrey Ploymath? That would be Euler, for his summability, or Von Neumann again, for his bluff ability.

Jun 11, 2010 at 23:30 comment added danseetea I disagree. I think the subjective/argumentative element of this question would be avoided if instead of discussing it, people could give references to historians of mathematics discussing this issue; this is not merely a personal question of "who was the last mathematician.." but actually a question about the development of mathematics in early 20th century (the mathematician itself would only be a representative).
Jun 11, 2010 at 23:28 comment added alext87 Okay. It seemed an interesting question, just perhaps not interesting enough to research mathematicians. Sorry I find it hard to judge what is and is not suitable for MO.
Jun 11, 2010 at 23:20 comment added Kevin H. Lin I agree with Mariano.
Jun 11, 2010 at 23:15 comment added Mariano Suárez-Álvarez This question would make for an interesting blog post, with an interesting thread of comments. For a MO question, probably not so much.
