Out of interest: I suspect one can get the result out of a Banach algebras argument; for by multiplying with an appropriate diagonal matrix we should be able to WLOG assume that each entry of the diagonal is 1, and then your domination condition should say that the matrix is at distance less than 1 from the identity matrix in a suitable BA norm. Now use the formula for the geometric series to invert A.
