Jan 14, 2017 at 18:52 | comment | added | Robert Bryant | It might be worth pointing out, though, that, if $X\subset\mathbb{CP}^2$ is a smooth algebraic curve, then its normal bundle is not trivial, and this implies that there cannot be a smooth map $\phi:\mathbb{CP}^2\to\mathbb{R}^3$ that is both an injective immersion when restricted to $X$ and a submersion on an open neighborhood of $X$. | |
