May 1, 2016 at 18:49 | comment | added | Wojowu | I didn't answer earlier because I wanted to take time and think about your suggestion, but I couldn't really make sense of it. Would you mind maybe illustrating it somehow?
Apr 30, 2016 at 16:34 | comment | added | Joseph O'Rourke | @Wojowu: Just close it off with right angles; the rays never touches these new corners. But this is unsatisfactory, since the polygon has to be oriented so that the ray has an irrational slope w.r.t. the central square. (The software is telling me to stop with the comments.)
Apr 30, 2016 at 16:30 | comment | added | Wojowu | But once we do that there is no way for us to "polygonize" this system of mirrors into a polygonal path.
Apr 30, 2016 at 16:29 | comment | added | Joseph O'Rourke | @Wojowu: I guess if you make a point-hole in the polygon connecting the segments in their construction, to let in the single ray, then it is possible (since the ray will never revisit the hole).
Apr 30, 2016 at 16:24 | comment | added | Wojowu | Yes, I've found a description of this paper somewhere and I've figured it probably shows some result (related to, but still) different from my question. Feel free to keep this answer though, since it's content is interesting by itself.
Apr 30, 2016 at 16:21 | comment | added | Joseph O'Rourke | @Wojowu: Now it is clear I have not answered your question. Sorry!

Apr 30, 2016 at 15:51 | comment | added | Wojowu | Unfortunately I don't have access to this paper, hence I can't confirm that this is exactly what I'm looking for. I will take a look at them whenever I have an opportunity though, so thanks.
